Aspect ratio
by chrisabel noyes on Jul 19, 2008 at 12:07:23 am

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help? Am having trouble with the aspect ratio once i upload a video onto youtube. I use vegas pro and always set the ratio to 16.9 but when i uploaded a video onto youtube today it changed to 4.3! I set my properties to pal dv 720*576 and render to mpeg2, pal dv and this has always worked fine for my other videos. but instead of the black line top and bottom and get them at the sides.

What have i done differently? i make fan video and the clips i use are the same as i've used in my other videos.

Many Thanks
Christabel

Just always render your videos for youtube using the highest quality
which is..4:3 aspect ratio,640x480 resolution, MPEG4 (xvid codec,etc),
at 30fps and your audio as stereo. Using the 4:3 aspect ratio and these settings won't spring any unexpected surprises when you view
it on you tube.
Always keep your video uploads to youtube consistent and of the best
quality.

Hi, Thanks for the help. My video is on youtube and everything is fine.

I was just wondering if you could help me again, just a query really. When i drag my clips into vegas i go to pan crop and change the preset ratio to 16:9. but when i render it, i go to custom and change the settings to 4:3, as you recommended. does having two different ratio affect the final video?

Thanks
Christabel

Well, if you are gonna do all that, you will loose some resolution.
(quality loss).
