Sony Vegas 8 m2t Capture Issues

I have 2 different computers: Thinkpad z60m running Vista and a Sony VAIO Desktop Dual-Processor running XP. I just updated the VAIO to SP3 yesterday as the computer has been in storage for several months.
I installed Vegas 8.0a on the VAIO so I could use it exclusively for video editing with my Sony HVR-Z1U HD Camera. I have been using this combination for several years.
When I went to capture from the camera, it did the usual business: ripped all of the multiple clips to individual m2t files on my secondary drive.
However, after finishing, Vegas on the VAIO cannot recognize the m2t files. It gives the "unsupported format" error message. I've searched for several hours on the forums and tried all of the solutions posted and have had no luck.
Even more strange is that when I copy a file ripped from the VAIO over to the Thinkpad, I can import no problem! Same version number, same serial, everything....
There is no warranty or guarantee concerning this. It is something that the Sony engineers are looking to implement in version 8.0c. It may or may not help you and it involves replacing a dll file. Make sure you do a system restore before trying this.
If you would like to help test the pre-release HDV reader for Vegas Pro 8, please follow these exact steps:
1) Download the file "M2tsplug.zip" from this ftp site:
{you must go to the thread provided in the link above and look for the second post from the forum adminstrator. Then please follow the instructions below.}
2) unzip
3) copy the file
m2tsplug.dll
into (default path) C:Program FilesSonyVegas Pro 8.0FileIO Plug-Insm2tsplug .
Choose yes when prompted to over-write.
4) Restart Vegas> Load up any HDV files or HDV projects you have been having trouble with.
5) Please post your results back to this thread. Don't start another thread.
6) If you run into problems, please post details. Critical details are
a) full system specs
b) problem file genealogy
- What device recorded this file?
- Was the tape brand new, or was it used once or more?
- What application was used for capture?
- Has this file been opened or saved in ANY other application, such as Womble, or Premiere.
- What problem did you encounter (stability, red frames, black frames, other)
The more detail the better.
.......
Please limit your comments in this thread to HDV file problems only. This beta HDV reader does not change the behavior of other source file types, it is for checking HDV .m2t files only.
If you run into a problem with this new reader, please delete this file (m2tsplug.dll) and un-install/ re-install Vegas Pro 8.0b.
Do not contact SCS tech support about this pre-release HDV reader for Vegas Pro 8. This needs to be thought of as a component beta test between you, and SCS engineering.

I seem to have found a solution for now. I installed "Sony Media Manager" first before installing Vegas. Everything is working so far. I did not need to install it on the other computer but I'm done trying to figure this thing out.
Media Manager is memory intensive but at least I can drop my m2t files into the timeline. I will post again tosee if any other problems come up...

Hi. Im having some issues with vegas, I used to work with Premier so I got used to the whole Avi. scene. I have no problems with .m2t but I recently rented my HD1000 to some college students and they want the footage in .avi Im not sure where im supposed to convert them from AVI using Vegas.
Oh and another thing, Premier wont capture HD from my HD1000 camera.
