Mpg wont import into Sony Vegas 8.0a properly, if at all.
by Jack Carver on Jul 13, 2008 at 7:15:44 pm

Mpg files wont import into my registered and activated Sony Vegas 8.0a build 179. Some import without audio but most won't import at all, giving the error: "Warning, an error occurred while opening one or more files. The file is an unsupported format." Then it has the file location.

I should imagine I'm missing a plugin, if that's the case, could somebody tell me which?

Thanks in advance.

They are straight from a Sony Handicam, not sure what type of mpeg though. I believe there's a way to test which it is?

I'll try suggested .dll, thanks.

Is this a miniDVD camcorder?
If yes, are you using the File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc feature?

If this is Vegas Pro 8 you're using, it's up to 8.0b so you might want to do the upgrade to see if that helps.

I'm not sure about the camera specifically, it's footage that my friend has transfered to me over msn, the files aren't corrupt because he can edit them fine in Premiere Pro, upgrading isn't an option I'm afraid.

Also, the plug-in made no difference to my problem.

Here's a free little program you can download that will tell you exactly what kind of file it is. It's called G-Spot.

Scroll down a bit and click on "Super Quick Start for Newbies". Then you can download it from the link above. It's an indespensible little piece of software!

Thanks a lot. I ran the program, says it's MPEG2, it also says the correct codecs are installed.
