Video Pass Through Problem

I have a Canon DV camera that has an analog-DV pass through. I connected the VCR to the camera, made the appropriate settings, connected the firewire to the computer, but Sony Vegas 8 doesn't seem to recognize properly the digital signal it is receiving. I can hear the audio on the computer speakers, but the video in the Vegas capture screen shows for a few seconds and then nothing. I never get any buttons available to record. The occasionally the video pops back on but just for a second or two, but still no buttons available. I don't have the "stop capture if frames are dropped" checked either. This is the first time I've tried the pass through. The video shows up fine on the camera screen, btw. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

VidCap (the capture utility) still thinks it's controlling the camcorder so this feature needs to be turned off.
Options > Prefs > General.
Deselect the "Enable DV device control" option.

As Mike says above, even though you're using the camera as a pass-through device, you're still doing an analog capture. It would be the same if you were using the Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC boxes.
You'll need to turn off the automatic control and do it manualy.
