Capturing Problem
by Linda O'Connell on Jun 13, 2008 at 1:01:39 am

I never had this problem before I just got a HV20 Canon Camera. Which I love by the way..

When I go to import the video it recognizes the camera (it comes up "Device HV Camera found"), but then the captured button is grayed out.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's a brand new camera and a brand new fire wire.

I don't think..though I don't know for sure, it has to do with HD. I haven't been able to import through HD at all (that's my next problem to solve), but the problem also occurs when it's on DV.

Any ideas?

Since I have an HV20, I hooked it up to V8. and went;
Capture video-> HDV or SDI
and it recognized the deck )IN capture references I can see, Capture Device HV20 and Device type IEEE card and I could capture HDV.
So, I am not sure what may be happening in your set up, but it works in mine.
Maybe you can describe the problem in more detail. jk

I think the problem is a long time ago I set it automatically come up to DV so I don't get the pop up question HDV or SDI question like you get. (Never thought I would get a HD camera!)

The instructions say to go to the video tab under preferences, I tried but there about 4 choices. I tried most of them. Could you tell me what you have under the tab is set at under "File" "Preferences" "Video"?

Also what it is set at under "Video" in the capture screen?

Thanks in advance.
Or maybe that doesn't even have anything to do with it either!

Go into Preferences->Video and uncheck "use external video application".
Unchecked it will capture HDV,
Checked it will capture DV

I did what you did and now I don't have the choice at opening capture, but it will capture HDV and DV as described above.

Have to figure out how to get the initial choice back.

Thanks it worked. It is different capturing this way..a whole different box comes up and set up, but it works. I appreciate the help. If you figure how to get it back to ask you in the beginning, let me know.

Hi Linda. Here it is.

Hold down CTRL+SHIFT when starting Vegas. It will restore all factory defaults. This will get rid of any presets you may have set up as well so be fore warned.
