Sudden Video Capture Problems
by Rich Stahle (Richiedude) on May 26, 2008 at 12:42:42 am

I've been capturing video w/sony video capture/vegas on windows xp pro pc for over 3 years now - with a trv-70, trv140 and a vx2100 cameras. I've had the occasional time the firewire cable came out as i was handling/changing tapes, knocked out by mistake, powered down etc - anytime i had trouble a system reset did the trick.

not this time.

I cannot for the life of me get my camera recognized by the computer - i also have a couple firewire drives connected nd now have this scenario:

camera only connected - never is detected.

camera and drives connected - drives are detected but are dropped when the camera is turned on, and return when camera is turned off. wtf?

I upgraded to service pack 3 - which is supposed to fix all 1394 issues.

not.

anyone w/ideas?

I even bought a new 1394 card and cable to make sure my hardware didn't crap out and as expected - no change - my cable & firewire card are just fine.

Anyone have an idea, suggestion, similar experience?

Anything i can do in vegas to kickstart it? (i couldn't fi nd anything)

pulling my hair out with little hair remaining . . .

coupla things...you sure your 1394 cable from camera is good? (prolly is, but it's a place to start)

Resources...look at the hardware system and be certain nothing is sharing resources with the FW card.

Look at a SECOND firewire card to connect the cammera, alongside the first card. See if that helps.

Sounds like there is a resource problem more than anything.

UPDATE: it's the cameras
by Rich Stahle on May 26, 2008 at 5:26:51 pm

on a whim i tried connecting another sony trv-70 i had kicking around i no longer use because there is something wrong w/tape drive (error 31:23 when yu try to play a tape)

anyhoo - that one WORKED.

i tried another trv140 camera i have - and it worked too.

so then i tried the vx2100 - yup - works now.

so what happened w/the 1394 cable slipping out disconnecting w/one of my trv-70 cameras that it will no longer detect, and in addition one of my trv140 cameras not detecting now either?

is there something in memory somewhere locking them out for some reason? i don't get it.
