Volume Keeps Changing by itself up and down
by Adam Roger on May 21, 2008 at 11:50:22 am

Hi,
Im trying to record some tracks with me and my friends on.
I've imported the mp3 beat,
and recording ontop,
The recording purely records voice, not the beat which is what i want, so we can still here the beat but it is not recording twice.

Only problem is.. the voice keeps going up and down randomly throughout the track so it is useless.

There must be a way of sorting this out.
I am connecting my voice through mics into mixer into computer recording port.
audio out is out into an amp

Hope you guys can help this has been bugging me for time!

Thanks
Toonyan

Perhaps your mixer or input channel has a compressor on it that is raising/lowering your voice based on other input, or on a fixed preset level, like a limiter?

Why wouldn't you put the beat on one track, record your voice to another track, so that you can mix this later?

Do you have an auto gain feature that is turned on? If so, turn it off. Other than that, can you tell us your sound card make, your mic brand, How do you have your mixer set up? Are you backing away from your mic and then getting closer?

You will need to provide some more information for us to be able to adequately help you.

post1: They are on two seperate tracks, audio and voice
I have tried recording both audio and voice on the same track using audiocity and this always works. Its just Sony Vegas which makes it do the volume thing.

post2: Using wireless mics not sure of the brand... connected to wireless station which goes into front mic port on mixer. Then output from mixer into soundcard.. again unsure of the brand.
Then output from the computer into my amp.

Sorry not much help i thought it would be more of a software problem.
