Importing dvsd footage

I have a lot of footage that someone left me, in avi format. gspot tells me the footage is coded with the dvsd codec. I have the proper codecs installed on my computer, but Vegasvideo 8 Pro won't import some of the clips (giving me file errors) or it will import others but they are gobbledy-gook. How do I get vegasvideo to use the proper codec and import the footage? Thanks, JR

More detail - the clips came from a Canon gl-2 and were written directly onto an FS-4PRO dte drive, no DV tape involved at any time. That dte drive connects to a pc via FireWire and is mounted just like any other external drive. It is running a FAT32 partition internally. has anyone tried this sort of thing with Vegas, are there setup or format issues with direct-to-disk recording? Thanks, JR

I do not have a GL2 but I believe it writes the same as a PD170 - that is DV-AVI. I have used my 170 attached directly to a laptop hardrive and acquired the dvavi quite successfully. The Dv avi files then drop normally into Vegas and away you go. Saves the time used for real time capture from tape to HDD.

Terry, thanks for the reply. I think you are right, the GL-2 outputs DV-AVI. The problem seems to be what the Firestore hard drive is doing. It can be configured to save video files in about 10 different formats. I'll experiment with those to see which work with Vegas. JR
