I have a new computer with windows vista. I have just installed my dvd architect studio 2.0. But it doesn't detect my DVD burner. (I know the internal dvd burner works because I'm able to burn dvds with Windows DVD Maker. so why doesn't dvd architect studio 2.0 detect it?)

Probably because DVD Architect is really old and your DVD recorder is really new! Several new versions of DVD Arcitect have been released since then.
Here's what you might try:
PREPARE in DVD Architect
BURN using some other program like Nero or Record Now (not sure about "Windows DVD Maker" - should work if it can use the Video_TS/Audio_TS folders created by DVD Architect)

You could also submit a ticket to www.sonycreativesoftware.com (http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php) and explain to them in detail what is going on, and give them all of the information on your drive, they may send you a patch via email. I am not guaranteeing this, I am just saying it is a possibility. They did this for me several versions ago when my burner was not being seen by DVDA.
Another thing to try if you haven't already is to update your burner's firmware. Make sure you are also running the lates lettered edition of DVDA studio 2.
