HDV device connection problem

The Vegas 8 HDV capture utility won't recognize my Sony HVR-V1U camera or the Sony HDV deck. It just says "device not available." I know I have HDV on the tape as I can play it back on the camera and I know it's not a cable or port problem because I can capture it on a mac with iMovie.

The PC can even see the device - in My Computer "Sony DV Tape REcorder" is listed under Scanners and Cameras.

Any thoughts on why Vegas can't see it?

Some Sony hdv cams (dont know about the decks) have an HDV , DV and automatic setting , make sure you have it on hdv and not auto. hope that helps

changing the camera setting from auto seemed to do it.
