video clip to still image
by tom Delacarey on Apr 22, 2008 at 12:19:40 am

I really want to stop a video clip at a certain point and turn it into a still image so that I can pause on it. Please help.

Thanks.

Here's just one of several ways to do it.

Park your cursor at the desired freeze point.
Set your Preview window to Best/Full.
Click the "Save snapshot to file" icon at the top right of this window (looks like a floppy disc).
Save as JPG or PNG to project folder.
Split the timeline at this point and move right-hand clip further to the right.
Insert newly saved image, drop it on timeline at this point and set length as desired.

Personally, I prefer using a Velocity Envelope and changing the speed to 0% (i.e. freeze frame) at that point.
