No sound after rendering the files with some templates
by sargon saadi on Feb 26, 2008 at 12:06:01 am

I have Sony Vegas 7. and I just have a question.

I'm editing video files that are .m2t format! and when I try to render it as [MainConcept MPEG 2(template: DVD Architect NTSC Video Stream)]the file will have no sound in it.!!!

It works when choose the template: DVD NTSC.
but I want to know why it doesn't include sound when I render it as the other templates!!!

Does anybody have an idea about that?

When you select any of the DVD Arch templates look at the description and it will say no audio. Render just like that. Then when done render again but this time select .ac3 dolby digital but make sure you use the same file name except for the .ac3. When you open DVD Arch to burn the DVD it will automatically match video and audio. This method gives you the cleanest audio (like for a rock band demo). It only happens in the DVD Arch templates. Hope this helps.

best rendering quality for .m2t native!!
by sargon saadi on Feb 26, 2008 at 11:25:59 pm

Thanks Ralph. That helped. I didn't know that before! but they're telling me that I have to buy the AC-3 encoder in order to complete!! (maybe I should that!)

Another question if you don't mind:

I'm editing in .m2t video format (It's HD 1080i), so what do you think is the best format I should save my finished video as?? I want the best quality possible!

I render as MainConcept MPEG 2 Template: HDV 1080-60i. the file came up big but I couldn't play-back it.

what other good options do I have??

I would really appreciate it if anybody can help me with this!!

First about the audio format. You can select another file format like .aiff just keep the names the same and DVD Arch will link the two. Don't forget the tip for the template select, NEVER use the default. Always make a selection.
The best rendering quality for .m2t. Well, it goes like this. If you can handle the large file sizes shoot everything in true HD 1920X1080. This means you'll have to have about 1 - 2 terabytes of external storage. But then you can purpose it to whatever format you need. Or you can shoot for porpuse meaning that if your end product is a DVD then SD 1440X1080 and render with MPEG2 - NTSC DV WIDE SCREEN. If you shoot for porpuse you'll be stuck with whatever quality you shot in but if you are going to multiporpuse the footage then the best is best. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding, Ralph!
Well, I've already recorded in HD 1080i! I want to render my edited files as HD format as well!

All what I've been doing till now is rendering my HD (.m2t)files to Type: MainConcept MPEG 2 Template: DVD NTSC. The rendered files come out ok! They work on a DVD! But they definitely lost much of its quality!

I was hoping to still get an HD quality after rendering! (Video files size doesn't matter to me at this point)

I tried to render the HD files (.m2t)with type MainConcept MPEG 2 Template: HD 1080-60i! but I couldn't play the rendered files on my computer!!

(is there a specific kind of video player that would play my rendered files which are in .m2t format as well ??)

Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

Once you render in HD you'll need to make a HD DVD so you can play them on a HD TV. That is the only part you are missing. You can't play HD content on a computer that isn't setup for it. The .m2t files are nothing more that mpgs with some additional resolution. The transition occures at the point of rendering. From then on you need to go HD all the way.

Thanks Ralph, again!

In this case I have to buy HD-DVDs and HD-DVD player!! this will cost a lil..!

But I'll try somehow! I hope it'll work!

One more question actually:
you said that I have to have a computer setup for playing .m2t videos. What do I have to do to make it setup for that?

Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

Don't confuse .m2t and HD. If you were using .m2t as shorthand for HD ok but remember .m2t is just mpg with extra info. After all if it were HD how could you see it on your computer to do the editing?
To set your computer up get a Video card that has a lot of memory and a HDTV output and then connect a HD TV.
Have you been following the HD DVD - Bul-ray wars? If so you know that Blu-ray won and if you but a HD DVD burner you might be buying limited life hardware. But both will produce a HD DVD format.

Ralph, HD-DVD has been abandoned at this point. You better go with Blu-Ray which Vegas can burn straight from the timeline. Still requires a Blu-Ray burner if you want an actual Blu-Ray disk (you can burn shorter videos to a standard DVD) and a Blu-Ray player, though.

I just got my license (for Blu-ray Logo) and I have two projects in process that we are making the transition. This fellow sounded like a hobbist and was interested with the bottom line. Since Byu-ray won I think you could pick up HD-DVD burner cheap now. Good for a 'show me' for HD but not for a business. Thanks for your input, Ed. I didn't know about the shorter to std DVD.

Thanks folks!

The only way I can see my .m2t files is when I'm editing in Sony Vegas 7!!

Some of the folks said that I can burn my .m2t videos to Blue-Ray directly from Sony Vegas!
Will Vegas let me custemize the menu the same way DVD Archetict 4 will let me??

I'm just saying that because I think DVD arch is a great program for creating Menues!

The Blu-Ray discs straight from Vegas will have no menu.

I installed the Combined Community Codec Pack so that I could view the .m2t files from the Canon HV20 and HV30 cameras. It is free and works great.

You can search for it on the internet.

Download it from here:

[sargon saadi] "but they're telling me that I have to buy the AC-3 encoder"

The AC3 encoder is included with DVD Architect. Just install and register DVD Architect and you can use the AC3 encoder in Vegas.
