Sony Vegas not accepting .avi files
by Blake Fox on Jan 14, 2008 at 9:53:44 pm

I wanted to make a video incorporating several parts of videos I have, but for some reason Sony Vegas 8.0 doesn't accept the files.
It will import them, but instantly, and when I went into trimmer, it says media is offline, which leads me to believe its not registering there is anything within the file.
I also cannot drag them to the timeline.
This happens with all my .avi files.
Is there anyway to fix this?

What kind of AVI files are they? have you been able to use any of them before in Vegas? We need some more details.
Allen

Hm... Didn't know there was more than one kind.
Says the Video Codec is mpeg-4asp and the Audio Codec is mp3,
Audio Format is mpeg layer-3
Video Compression is DvGigaAVICodec...
...
I'm not really good with computer terminology, so I hope that was the information you were looking for.
I did find a way around my problem, by converting my files to .mpegs, but if you could help figure out a way to use the files and not have to convert them, that'd be great.
Thanks again for your time.

That's what I figured. Is it a HD video? One of the others fellows will have to help you and I'll be watching for replies also.

I never tried to bring an MPEG 4 into Vegas, but I'm thinking about getting that new Sony CX7 camera which is AVCHD MPEG-4.

Yea, AVI is a general wrapper for a few different kinds of video.

Sorry I can't help you but someone will.

Where did the videos originally come from?
Camcorder, digital camera, off-air signal???

Hm. Well its a show I downloaded online, so if I had to choose one of those 3 I guess it would be off-air signal. But if theres other options I'm guessing it's not one of the above.
