OT Remote Camera Head
by Allen Zagel on Dec 8, 2007 at 2:31:43 pm

Hi
Sorry this is a bit off topic but most of you know more about cameras than I do.

Well, I just got word that I got the 'job-of-a-lifetime' coming up sometime next year! I'm drooling! ;-)

Anyway we're shooting technical video for an extremely large railroad on the East Coast, probably from a train ar 150mph. We don't really want to do our normal shoot through the windshield so one of my partners brought up the possibility of a remote camera head mounted outside with the controls and recording done inside, and I'm not hanging my DSR250 out the window ha ha.

Of course I'm doing the editing in Vegas! 8 if I get up to speed with it, if not then 7.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can google for? We can't spend 6 figures but I'm in research mode here.

Thanks
Allen

Allen, if there are any reputable CCTV (closed circuit TV) dealers in your area, go and talk to them.
CCTV color cameras are available from most of the names you already know such as Sony, Panasonic, JVC & Hitachi (as well as a lot you've never heard of!!) and, since it's a camera head only, prices are far less than a camcorder.
A quick search didn't turn up any 3-chip models but that's not to say that they don't exist.
