Zoom-level shortcut key?
by kayacroix on Nov 28, 2007 at 2:02:59 pm

Is there a way to setup a shortcut key to instantly achieve a favorite zoom-level on the tracks?

I realize that Vegas8 allows you to shortcut to project-view level, frame level, and a 1-sec. level, but are any of these pre-set shortcut levels adjustable? My most frequently used zoom-level is none of those that they provide. It would be nice to get to it with one button push.

It would be possible to do that in Vegas 8 via a script.

Thanks for your reply, Edward. I have your Excalibur, but I don't have a clue as to how to set up scripts. Is there a tutorial that can walk me through this?

Vegas 8 added many new scripting commands. One of them will set the zoom level of the timeline. Since you know nothing about writing scripts, someone would need to write it for you.

Try this one:
http://www.jetdv.com/scripts/SetZoomLevel.cs

This will set the timeline to 1 minute 30 seconds long. In the middle is this line:
Timecode zoomSize = new Timecode("00:01:30:00");

Change that timecode to be the length you want.

Put this script in the following folder (you may have to create it):

{My Documents}Vegas Script Menu

Then, after starting Vegas, you should be able to assign that to any keypress you desire.

Thank you, Edward. I successfully copied and installed that script in Vegas8, as you instructed---and it works as you designed. But, to modify the "time" portion of it, what program would I use?

Modifying it in Notepad or Frontpage, it is not recognized as a .cs file, even if I name it as a .cs file.

Yes, it is a .cs file. You can make the changes in Notepad just fine. In fact, Notepad is what I created it in.

You are right, of course. I don't know what I was doing, before, but modifying the 2nd time within Notepad works, just fine.

Thank you, Edward!

That is such a great time saver---being able to return to my preferred zoom level by pressing one key with my left hand!

Do you happen to have a similar script that jumps to a preferred track height?

[kayacroix] "Do you happen to have a similar script that jumps to a preferred track height?"

I didn't "happen" to have the one I gave you :-)

I had to write it right quick.

Track Height is not accessible to the scripting engine.

Well, then that was very kind of you, sir. Thank you! Its big help and will save thousands of two-handed-shortcut zoom adjustments.

I don't know how you feel about "Gentleman" and "Sweetheart" going together, but you are both!!!
