mpg1s in PowerPoint

I've been using mpg1 as standard for both Mac and PC users of small video clips for years now, but have just been told that the latest security patch for PPT prevents then playing.
Is this the case? Are MS forcing the community to wmv files?

It is fully patched afaik.
