I need help with importing AVI files.
I just started testing the new dvd Arch 4, and my first problem was to import a file with the extension DAT which I renamed as AVI, it worked ok if I play it in any other video player, but it's not recognized with DVD-Arch 4.
When I continue reading the error messages, it said that the plug-in for the AVI file was not initialize properly.
What do I need to do?, How do I fix this?

Thank you for the fast interest in solving problems.
I found the solution, uninstalling and reinstalling it, solved the issue.
BTW, files *.DAT they are readable and work fine with either vegas 7 and DVD Arch 4, they are in fact videos (you can change the extension with no problem because the video encoder is similar)
It was a matter of 3 to 4 reinstallations, I turned off a couple thing that use the avi resources.
Everything is working fine now.

Just for the record, *.dat files may well be video, but they may be a lot of other things too. They may be a relational database. They may be temporary data from your word processor. They may be a lot of things. There is no formal requirement as to what a .dat file (or a .avi file for that matter) contains.

You are right, but when you are working with videos, movies, VCDs, and we extract it from it, the chances are is a video file no matter the extension as long as you verify all your files from the extraction. In this case VCDs and captured files you can name them any name you want if it doesn't interfere with assigned extension applications. Just to say that in my case was a true video with a DAT extension. And Yes, NOT always is a rule a thumb. Thanks
