Re: PowerPoint to Vegas conversion.

Hey Gang, I read a post here a while back about a program that exports PowerPoint projects to .avi I believe. I've ran a search and can't find the original post, nor remember the original author's name. Does anyone remember it and could you link me to the post or better yet the website that has the program. I believe it's name was "The Office" or something similiar. Not Office by Microsoft but someone else. It so happens I have a client who wants this kind of conversion, and if I remember correctly there is a downloadable demo. Any help greatly appreciated!!

It's called Open Office and you don't need to worry about a demo version as it's open source software (i.e. FREE). The download is close to 100 MB. though

Ok a quick update. Flash seems to be the only moving format to export to and I now know Vegas imports Flash. I'm still unable to do it though. Is there anyone out there that has actually done this, got it to work? Documents in both programs sheds no light on the subject. The strangest thing is, the Flash animation it creates has nothing to do with the PowerPoint presentation, nor are the slides created, even in the presentation. How can that be? Weird mystery to me. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Sorry Rob but, since I know nothing about Flash yet, I can't help you out.
I thought Vegas had limitations on Flash though. AFAIK, it only imports up to a certain version.
As far as Open Office, I think the poster in the original thread was looking for an app to convert PowerPoint to AVI for subsequent Vegas import.

Ok thanks Mike..............guess it's not possible then, as Open Office doesn't have the option to export to .avi Only flash, html and pdf. Hmmmm......well I'll just tell my client it can't be done, unless he wants me to re-construct the entire project in Vegas. Once again thanks for your response.

Everything can be done, one way or another.

There is an option in powerpoint (2003) to save all slides as jpg files at once, you can then import them into vegas. Fine and dandy if there is no animation in the powerpoint.

If there is animation, you can use a screen capture program such as snagit (www.snagit.com) to capture your powerpoint presentation as it plays. It will save as .avi.

Another option is to play the slideshow with powerpoint on a laptop or computer with a S-video out port, then capture to your camcorder.

OR you can download a program to convert flash to avi.

Pick your poison.

Thanks Eric, I appreciate the info and advice. But those solutions I know of and are way too time consuming for me. As luck would have it I found the perfect PowerPoint to .AVI converter called PowerVideoMaker Pro by http://www.presentersoft.com/ and the demo is downloadable. More than long enough to get this job done.

I tried the PowerVideoMaker Pro you suggested a while back and I'm wondering how sharp the text was after rendering to a video format?

Mine did not look very good. I could not find any settings to improve it either.

I've had no response from the company via email so I thought I'd ask how it is working for you?

Thank You!
