Streaming personal video on iPhone
by cybersawyer2 on Sep 14, 2007 at 10:54:44 am

Can anyone help me out regarding playing video on the iPhone? I have video I have produced (shot/edited/own) and am desperately trying to upload to the web for viewing on the iPhone. The person needing to view it has the iPhone, but no access to another computer (laptop or desktop) or access to iTunes. I have seen that other people are doing it on their sites, and have tried uploading to two different websites (with different serverss) now with no luck. I have used different apps as well (the iPhone settings in QT Pro, the iPhone settings in Compressor, and the iPhone settings in iMovie. I even tried rendering and exporting out of FCP first. I then downloaded Visual Hub and gave it a try...no luck. I have also tried many different video files to eliminate any problem QTs. I continue to get an "error playing movie" message every time.

I have the most up to date hardware and software.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

it sounds as if your web service is modify the file.

I have any number of video files on my phone, but all were syncd thru itunes - I am not able to view some video files I made on any site but my dot mac account.

send them a DL link so they can sync the phone via Itunes for the best results.

[gary adcock] "send them a DL link so they can sync the phone via Itunes for the best results. "

Gary yes that would be good but in his original post he says the the person douse not have access any computer or connection to the web other then the iPhone.

What service are you using to host the video online. Not all services fully support all formats of quicktime.

I have simply used the presets to compress the video, and used my .Mac account and iWeb. It is simple, and supper easy. You don't even have to use iWeb. If you have iMovie 08, then just export out of FCP the current settings of the time line. Pull that file into iMovie 08 and create a video web gallery. It will do all the compression for you.

The beauty of the video gallery, is that you can have it do it to several different quality settings. This way there is a smaller quality that is compatible with the iPhone, and a larger resolutions that can also be viewed from regular computers.

I realize this post if almost a year old, but I just got my iPhone and have had the same problem. The quick and dirty way to fix this, is to create a YouTube account, upload your video, then email that link to the person with the iPhone. They will be able to click on the link, and be sent directly to YouTube to watch it.

Hope it helps....better late than never!
Nate
