converting purchased movies to iphone size

i have several movies either purchased from itunes or downloaded from itunes from a free digital copy of a dvd i purchased. i want to put these on my iphone but they don't need to be the size they are when downloaded. i know they have drm on them but i just want to reduce the size of them to iphone size so they don't take up so much room on my iphone. i can't export them in quicktime pro and handbrake won't do it either.
is there a way i can make these files smaller so i can fit more on my iphone?
