Visual Voicemail problem
by Mitch Ives on Aug 25, 2008 at 5:13:09 pm

In the past, I could always go back in and re-play and visual voicemail messages anytime I wanted. Now I can only play them once. After that selecting them doesn't result in them playing anymore.

I confirmed it this morning. Left a voicemail message... played it back once... now selecting it does nothing.

This started after the 2.0.2 update to my 1G iPhone. Am I the only one getting this?

Mitch,

After testing, I found that the first time you play a voicemail you simply need to touch the name and voila, it plays back your message. Later, if you want to here it again, you actually have to hit the tiny little play arrow in the way upper left. At least that's how mine is working.

It is kind of silly that it should change from one way of working to another, without reason. Kind of counter-intuitive I'd say. Does that not work for you too?

I actually tried that. Doing so just toggles it to pause. Doing it again toggles it back to play, but it never plays... the bar never moves at the bottom, etc.

WHAT have you tried to resolve the issue?

A couple of suggestions.

Have you tried a restore of the iPhone from iTunes?
You may also want to try restoring the phone and then not restoring from the backup and selecting set up as new phone once it has finished the restore.
If that does not solve it, then try resetting your VM password by calling 611 from your phone.
The last resort you may need to ask ATT to remove the voicemail feature from your account completely and then add it back on.

There are no "technical solutions" to your "artistic problems".
Don't let technology get in the way of your creativity!

I'm actually visiting the Apple store today. I need to discuss this permanent white oval (bright spot) that I have in the upper left corner, so I thought I'd give them a shot at fixing this. Of course, I'm backing everything up, just in case it's amateur hour down there...

Well, after looking at my screen, Apple just replaced my iPhone, so of course... everything works fine now...

It was a 16GB model which only came out in February, so it was under warranty...
