Want to help beta test the new MOBI interface
by Ron Lindeboom on Jul 31, 2008 at 10:52:06 pm

Hello Bovines,

We are working on the new mobile .MOBI interface for the COW's users who have 3G-capable phones like the iPhone, Palm Treo, Blackberry and others.

If you would like to help bang on it and help us squash bugs, etc., please point your phone to...

http://mobi.creativecow.net

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Ron Lindeboom

First off, this is really great! I hadn't done much COW-surfing on my iPhone, but I suspect this will change from now on.

My only suggestion is to bump the font size of the forum text up one notch. Right now I can see (on average) two posts on a vertical iPhone screen. I'd rather have slightly larger text and just scroll a little more often. I think you'd still tend to see almost a whole post at a time even with a slightly larger font.

But that's just from an iPhone perspective. If what you have now is perfect for Blackberries or something, it's not worth changing. It's certainly fine the way it is, that's just the only suggestion I can think of. Everything else works great.

Another way of enlarging the text is to turn your iPhone to landscape display mode -- that is on its side.

Very nice job. I'm posting this from an iPhone. Well actually the iPhone simulator, but same basic thing. If I had to suggest anything for version 2, it would be to add Favorites support for the forums. It takes a while to find a forum on the phone.

Well I started to post something about how awesome it is (with one suggestion for version 2: Favorites support in the list of Forums). I was posting from my iPhone. But after I pressed "Post Direct," I saw this:

Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in
/var/www/m.creativecow.net/htdocs/forums/sys_newpost.php on line 277

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at

But hey other than that, it's looking great!

Thanks for the feedback, Dave. We will look into the glitch and see if we can squash the bug quickly.

I really like the it. One thing I would like to see really has nothing to do with the mobile site, but I would love to have a added link in the emails that are sent out notifying of a response to a thread you have posted on, it would be nice if there was a link to the mobile version of the site in the email also.

There is a way, just change the word forums.creativecow.net in the address to mobi.creativecow.net and hit return.

We don't want to add the mobi to the address links as it is such a small part of our traffic now and would only confuse the majority of our visitors.

Best,

[Ron Lindeboom] "There is a way, just change the word forums.creativecow.net in the address to mobi.creativecow.net and hit return. "

Yes but on the iPhone when you tap on the link in the email it automatically launches safari and begins loading the page. To change it you ether have to wait for the page to load or stop it loading before changing the address.

There is already two links in the email that is sent out, I dont think a 3rd would be any more confusing.

I found the good old cow mobi site while researching mobifiying my own stuff..... "of course" why didn't I try the Good old Cow straight off.
Mr & Mrs L are right in there still!
Thinks I am about to join the herd more frequently again :-)
