G5 crach - iPhone not syncing
by Al J. Marschke on Apr 29, 2008 at 2:43:38 pm

Since my G5 crashed and I reinstalled my OS (10.4.11) iTunes 7.6.2 (9)no longer sees my iPhone. What's up with that? Any ideas?

I used the usb port in the front of the Mac and one in the back.
It charges but that's it. Everything but the kitchen sync :)

Thanks,

Hello Al,

Umm, strange one.......do you by any chance have a AT&T, or a hacked iphone?
Hacked iphone's have been known it act up now and again, but the config you are using should work, and you should be able to use your iphone.
Short of disconnecting your iphone, and doing a re-install of your OS, and itunes, I'm a bit stumped as to why your iphone will no longer sync. What firmware are you using?
I'll ask a buddy, who is a Mac Genius if he knows of any issues, and get back to you.

All the best

Not a hacked phone. I had to reinstall iTunes. Something was just wrong.

Do other computers recognize the iPhone?

Yes my other G5 recognized the phone. I called apple support and they suggested I reinstall iTunes. When I did everything worked fine. Something happened when I installed it the second time.

I would guess because I did not do a complete uninstall before I reinstalled after the crash. I figured the OS install would do it. Still must have been some broken pieces laying around.

Thanks for the help. I'm back up again.

P.S. Apple support and AT&T where extremely helpful. I originally called AT&T and they said it was an iTunes problem and they connected me directly to iPhone support which quickly fixed the problem and emailed me a report of the incident and solution. Nice!!
