iPhone hangs... how common?

I just had my 16GB iPhone completely hang. Dark screen, nothing to see... wouldn't operate at all. I have nothing loaded on it other than what came with it. Trying to force quit an app didn't work... it took a full restart to fix it. That part is easy, the problem is that I didn't know it was hung (in the holster) and I missed several key return calls.
I've never had a phone become unreliable before (probably because I won't use anything running CE). My question is, has anyone else experienced this... and if so, how common is it?

I have never had mine hang up like that, Mitch. I have had it for quite a while now and it's been pretty reliable -- even if it does drop calls more than any phone I have ever owned. (That has more to do with AT&T/Cingular than with the phone, as I hear that just about any phone does that on the Cingular/AT&T system. That is why they run ads saying that they have the fewest number of dropped calls. If it were true they'd be advertising something else, I guess.)

Thanks Ron... I was hoping that was the case. As for reception, I've noticed that the iPhone isn't as good as the BlackBerry, but hey... life is full of compromises, right?

Hello all,
I've got a few issues with my iphone. I've had a few problems with hanging, but instead of hanging on a black screen, my phone just stops, and doesn't react at all.
I have to press the home button, and start again.

yeah
having the same issue with mine too dave, sometime it feels as if it is waiting for some response from the carrier. With the 1.1.3 build it would just lock up without warning and it required me to plug the darn thing in to get it to reset.
