Hi everyone!
Listen, I am trying to purchase something that I am not sure exists so let me explain it and maybe one of you knows what its called and where I could purchase it or if someone can make this for me...
I am looking for a reverse lazy susan- by that I mean a round platform where the outside turns around the inside.
I will be putting a camera on the outside section and filming the center (around the center object). So the center stays still, and the camera makes a 360 around it.
The objects I will be filming are no bigger then 1 foot (most objects are only 6 inches tall and two inches wide)- so I am not talking about a large object here- I guesstimate the circumference would be around three feet? maybe get away with a two foot circumference).

Well, I've never heard of such a thing, but I'm sure a trip to your local hardware store with about $35-$150 would net you a decent setup... well .. if you're handy with tools :)
The main thing you'll have to worry about is hanging it.. you're going to want to hang it from the center with a pivot point under the platform which will connect to your camera mount .. at least it would seem to make sense that way...

I have some links to some resources below. I don't think there's a designed system to rent or buy so you are the first to patent. I take it you need the background to move past the object otherwise a simple turntable will work. My standby is a second fluid tripod for the object to pan by hand. I now use the motorized cake decorating turntable http://www.kopykake.com/cd_turntable_karousel.html.
How much does your camera weigh and how close can you get to the object at the desired framing?
Can you use tight radius curved track for standard camera dolly?
One system you could build is on a lazy susan bearing. You can buy at a hardware store. Some have open centers to put a platform for the object. Build a bracket for the camera and attach to the bearing. You may need a counterbalance as long as it is not in the shot behind the object.
