After Effects artist needed for sci-fi dv project (NYC)
by Sharifa Williams on Jan 4, 2008 at 5:57:08 pm

Seeking an After Effects artist in NYC to help with my dv sci-fi project, "Passengers of 7D."

Pay is negotiable. I probably can't afford to pay someone to take on the *whole* project, but I'd like to bring someone in to work on a couple key shots and establish the look.

Some rotoscoping/rotosplining and motion tracking involved. Possible chroma key work as well.

The type of fx needed for this project include:
-people and objects phasing in and out (with some interference)
-"half-phased" people (people who have only partially phased into the room, with a ghostlike look and their images fluctuating)
-video monitors that appear on the wall (also half-phased with some interference)

CONTACT: p7d@filmrise.com
More info: http://www.filmrise.com/p7d

Thank you!
Sharifa Williams
Writer/Director

Hello there =) I was looking over your post and a couple ideas came to mind on accomplishing this effect, will these people and objects be on a green/blue screen? or straight street footage?

Hi Richard. :) For the most part, we will not be using green screen. We'll be shooting in an apartment in which it would be difficult to get the actors and camera back far enough to light a green screen properly and avoid spill.

I was, however, considering using small green screens for the wall-monitor shots, just to key out the side of the actor looking at the screen.

Ahh I see where the rotoscoping comes into play then =), the wall mounts should be fairly easy, if you could supply me with 10 secs of footage i'll see what I can come up with =)

There was no "edit post" that I could see so I will just post a reply.. just thought I would add.. for a better effect you might want to shoot the scene twice, once without the actors.

[Richard Dunstan] "...shoot the scene twice, once without the actors."

Yes, it is called a "clean plate" and lets you composite together the clean plate over or under your other plate, as needed.

I hope that makes sense. ;)

Mark

Hiya =) yup I understand the concept pretty well, and I would be interested in the wall monitors and the actors, you might not need to use a green screen for the wall mounts, I am pretty sure that I can create these in Cinema 4d and then just lay them in with the footage, shadows and all.

you can also reach me at personalfx@gmail.com

Excellent! :) We will do some some test shoots in the coming weeks and I will have some footage for you. Are you only interested in the wall-monitor shots?

Thank you for your interest and possible help!

(BTW, you can reach me by email here: p7d@filmrise.com)

I would be interested in doing all of the work you listed above, except that I am in the UK. Is this a problem? I am a professional post-production artist who will offer a highly competitive rate, at an excellent work speed. Feel free to contact me through here or privately through j101100@hotmail.com.
