Nucleo RAM preview crashing when AE R/p doesn't?
by Jimmy Brunger on Apr 24, 2008 at 12:03:09 pm

I have a fairly complicated comp that when I try to do a Fast Preview on a certain section of it it crashes AE everytime. If I just do a normal AE RAM preview of the same section it is fine..

I don't have any temporal effects applied, unless you count pixel-motion for frame blending which may be on there in places? It's such a heavy comp I wouldn't know where to start taking it apart to see what's causing it.

Any ideas?

Is there a way in AE to export a list of plugins/effects used in a particular portion of a comp? (This would I guess have to include effects applied to pre-comps within it too)

AE7 Pro - Nucleo - Mocha v1.2.0 - PS CS3 - FCP 5.1.4
MacPro Quad 3GHz / ATI 1900XT / 8GB RAM / OSX 10.4.11
30" ACD / Wacom Intuos 3 A4 / XServe RAID
---------------------------------
Production Studio CS2 - Combustion 3 - Mocha v1.0.1
Win XP Pro 32 / Intel P4 3GHz / 2GB RAM / GeForce FX5200 / DeckLink Pro / Roland DS-5s / Sony BVM-20G1E / 2 x Dell 2007FP / Wacom Intuos 3 A4 / 110GB/80GB/600GB RAID-0

Two suggestions to start with:

You can use File > Collect Files to see the list of the effects used in the comp and any referenced nested comps. Change the Source to Selected Comps (choose the comp in the AE window before starting this) and check the Generate Report Only box. Click save and you'll get a text file with all the effects listed. Unfortunately it covers the entire comp and not just the work area.

Have a look at our Nucleo Pro Frequently Asked Questions (http://www.gridironsoftware.com/pg/Nucleo_FAQ) to see if any of your effects are listed.
