Background 3D Rendering
by bbigger on Aug 9, 2007 at 10:54:21 pm

A question on 3D Background rendering: Is using Nucleo Pro 2 the most efficient way to do a 3D Batch render or is doing it via the command line going to be faster.

I have a Dual Quad Core Mac Pro with 16 GB RAM, so I'm looking for the best way to harness all that power.

Thanks!
Bryce

Nucleo Pro 2 uses the command line to send render work to the 3D Apps. Therefore - it should be one and the same.

That said - its designed to be a queue - so you can add multiple items, manage them etc.

Also - if you want to do an apple's to apple's comparison - make sure to set NP2's performance level to maximum. The default setting (normal) is meant to throttle your 3D renders so you can render and work at the same time. Be advised though - I would not run anything but AE and NP2 when doing this - as your machine could potentially be completely unusable until the render is done.

Hope this helps.

A followup question then: Can I run NP2 WITHOUT AE? As in I want all resources just for NP2 to use accordingly?

Unfortunately no. NP2 must be started when AE starts, as much of its internals are as an AE plugin.

That said- the resources used by an idle AE with no loaded project are usually minimal.

We have heard from many though they would like to open it without AE. Unfortunately not this release.
