Memory Usage
by Michael Powers on Jul 27, 2007 at 3:00:30 pm

When using Nucleo Pro 2 on an XP 64-bit system lots of RAM, can each instance of AfterFX use up to the 4GB limit of RAM?

Is there any benifit to this? I work on large(5000x1800pixek) multi-screen shows that sometime use 10-12 prerendered tga layers at that size.

Thnx

The simple answer is - yes, each AE process on Win 64 will use its maximum of 4GB.

The benefit to this is a larger cache when rendering for each AE instance. This means less re-rendering as AE renders due to lack of memory.

As a benchmark, on a 4-core with 4GB of RAM and a RAM intensive AE project, took 18 minutes to render with Nucleo Pro (took 32 minutes for AE native). With 8GB of RAM, it rendered it the same project in 11 minutes.

Thnx Steve for your very informative and well written posts. Your definitive RAM/32/64bit guide to AE was also very helpful.

I have been playing around with the Trial version of Nucleo Pro 2, it is pretty impressive.

Thanks again.
