Snow Leopard seems to have killed Episode 5.2.1

I can't get Episode 5.2.1 to function on my machine (Mac Pro Tower, Quad Core) now that Snow Leopard (10.6.1) has been installed. There doesn't seem to be an Episode preferences file I can trash. I tried re-installing as well as installing the Beta version - all with the same problem. The Telestream forum said no compatibility problem with SL, so I am stumped as to what might have happened.

Please translate "function" into a meaningful technical description.
For me, all attempts to encode result in a "dtd" error. I have contacted Telestream about this and I'll have a beta to test but if you can't detail your problem I can't test for it.
Final Cut Pro 7 QT Issue by Robert Longwell on Sep 11, 2009 at 5:50:42 pm
I'll add that there is also a potentially big issue with FCP 7 QT files and Episode. It depends on whether you resize or not.
FCP6 used to export the ProRes files native to the original dimensions. Meaning, if you worked in 1920x1080, 1280x720, 720x486, etc then the codec reported this.
FCP7 uses some presentation settings in QT (honestly I'm not all that familiar with this feature) and now the codec as reported by QT, do not state these pixel dimensions. Rather they are now 1888x1062, 1248x702 & 640x480 respectively.
See below:
As long as you are doing a resize in Episode then obviously Episode will resize to your requested size. However if you are not using the resize filter, then Episode will create your files at the 1888x1062, 1248x702 & 640x480 sizes.

I did a complete OS install again and it didn't fix the issue for me. I believe there's "something else" as part of the interaction but many people are experiencing it. I did find removing Episode and reinstalling it fixed it but the issue returned within a few hours. I'm seeing there are MANY permissions/ownership issues in 10.6 so I suspect that's related. I should be able to test a possible fix over the weekend.

In other words, it crashes consistently as soon as it opens. I get "Episode quit unexpectedly."
Ran permissions repair - got two notices that those two permissions were not modified:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.

There's a couple of issues going on with Episode and 10.6.x and some people.
The "dtd" on encode attempts issue can be worked around by making sure Episode is in the Applications folder rather than a subfolder. Some people put all the "stuff" that comes with Episode (Documents, etc) in a "parent" folder which had been OK for previous versions but seems to have broke with 5.2.1 and 10.6.
Wynn I got your crash log and forwarded to the developers directly. They're still looking at it but try creating a new user with Admin status and see if it opens there (and make sure Episode is in Applications and not a subfolder).

I tried the new user account yesterday - no effect.
Made sure no other apps were running - no effect.
Move it to the Application folder root - no effect.
Splash screen comes up for a moment - then the crash notice.

So that would indicate it's a system level installation and some sort of "conflict." Try killing your user login items (not just the checkbox but actually clicking the "-" ) for the new user, reboot and try again in that user.

Still unable to get Episode to run. Tried doing a clean re-boot, reinstalling SL and optional installs. I notice that when I click Episode, it never replaces "Finder" in the upper left-hand corner, suggesting, I think, that it never fully opens before crashing.

Do you have Episode directly in Applications folder or in a subfolder? Try placing it directly in the applications folder. Telestream is working on a new build.

BTW I may not have mentioned it in this thread but there is a 5.2.1 beta which came out after 5.2.1 which can solve some (but not all) of the Snow Leopard issues. Some might have seen it and been confused by the term beta, thinking it was PRE 5.2.1 but actually it's POST 5.2.1 release.
