Hi,

I'm using Episode to encode an SWF file for a client. For various reasons i've got a file size limit of 512kb

The video is 5:46 long and is made up of still images only changing to a voice over (like a very simple video podcast or narrated powerpoint presentation)

I've managed to get the file size down to 836kb after tweaking as many options as i can. Episode just won't let me go any further down the scale.

Is there anyone who can help me with this or give me some advice?

Many Thanks in advance,

Nick

P.S. below are the settings I currently have:

Episode v5.0.1
output format: Flash (swf)
Video encoder: Flash 8 video (VP6-E)
Average rate: 15kbit/s
peak rate: 15kbits/s
Frame skip: 0
VBV size: 2
Natural Keyframes only
High Quality 2-pass CBR
sharpness: 0

Fixed Framerate: 1.75fps

Deinterlace: complete

resize: 550 x 400

Audio encoder: Lame MP3
Bitrate based
Bitrate: 16Kbit/s
Channels: mono
Sample rate: 11025Hz

I'm honestly amazed you got the file size as small as you did.

Tell me about it! I know it's possible due to a previous podcasty thing that was done a while back and provided to me. It was 504kb!

I have noticed that "ZLib compressed" is "YES" in the example file but "NO" in my file. I've no idea what this is...

The previous SWF file you mentioned might have been created in Flash as a slideshow with JPEG stills inserted at specific frames. This would help make it smaller as each still images would only be included once. This would also explain the zlib compression, as that is an option when exporting from Flash.

Hi Aaron,

that's pretty much what I figured.

Many thanks for all the help.
