Closed Caption from Beta SP to MPEG2 with Episode?
by Matt McHenry on May 27, 2008 at 3:05:39 pm

I'm trying to encode a show that has closed caption info from Beta SP and output an MPEG2 with the cc info attached. Thus far I have been unsuccessful. Anyone know if Episode can accomplish this or have any suggestions on work flow or software/hardware that might work?

I've captured through an AJA IO to Final Cut and have been able to keep the cc info in an uncompressed mov file. I've tried a few transcoders but nothing seems to keep the cc info when exporting the MPEG2.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

In the MPEG-2 Profile settings, enable Add empty VBI space. That adds Vertical Interval Blanking which would include your Closed Caption (as well as Sigma encoding etc).

MPEG-2 typically stores CC as User Data. Are you sure the players you are viewing your encodes on support User Data?
