Compressor PlugIn not Deinterlacing
by Patrick Inhofer on Aug 21, 2007 at 1:39:27 pm

Hi,

I finally gave the Compressor Plug-in a spin last night. It doesn't seem to have handled the deinterlacing specified in the WMV preset.

Has anyone else run across this?

I'm wondering if this might be related to Episode Pros inability (on my system, at least) to compress reference movies exported from FCP?

Hi Patrick,
First I just want to make sure you're using the fixed Compressor Plugin 1.0.0.27 and not the older 1.0.0.25 which had some bugs in it.
Episode Compressor Plugin 1.0.0.27.dmg

How are you attempting to deinterlace? Are you using Episode's deinterlace filter or Compressor's Frame Control or legacy deinterlace filter? I believe they're all functional and all yield different results.

You also mention issues with reference movies. I've found this to be true with 8 bit and 10 bit uncompressed reference but not other formats. I'm sure Telestream is working on a fix but if you're having an issue with something other than 8 or 10 bit please add the details.

Hmmm...

It's likely I had the older plug-in. It had been sitting on my desktop for a long time before I installed it yesterday. I'll confirm on Wed when I'm back in the office.

And I was using Episode Pros deinterlacer. I avoided doing anything to the video from Compressor.

Those are the two codecs I work with almost exclusively.

This particular bug as been in place for months. Hopefully they'll get it worked out soon.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Just checked...

I installed 1.0.0.27

Deinterlacing was done in the Episode Pro setting as follows:

Automatic Detection
Edge Detecting Interpolation
Complete Deinterlace

Resize settings:

480x360
4:3
Crop: T4 L2 R2 B2
Automatic Interpolation
Interlace Options: Progressive Output

Codec Options:

WMV9
2-Pass CBR
Streaming
ABR: 600kbit/s
Main Profile

Any other ideas?

Would your source have had progressive frames in it at any point?

Have you tried changing Deinteralce Complete to Deinterlace Interlaced Frames (Automatic)?

Have you compared and Episode encode vs the encode in the Compressor Plugin to determing if Compressor is having an unexpected impact. This would be an immense help in determing whether the issue is Plugin/Compressor releated vs some odd combination in Epsiode.
