Im going to build a small render farm / cluster using episode pro. Should I buy a couple of Mac mini servers with i7 quad core or a couple of used macpro towers from eBay? I'm doin mostly prores to x.264 HD stuff.

If you are going with Episode Pro, which is limited to 2 simultaneous encodes at a time, I think the minis will be a good fit. 2 simultaneous H.264 encodes should saturate the cores but not overly. I have the same processor in my MBP with 8gig of RAM.

Do you think Episode will have any problems with the graphics card in the Mini Server being an Intel HD Graphics 3000? How much episode relies on the graphics card?

Thanks for the help Kevin!

Should not be a problem at all. We only really use the GPU for some preview rendering, nothing in the encode chain relies on the graphics card.
