Alan,

I just saw the announcement by one of the members at the official Sony Vegas Pro board and got jazzed--but I can't afford it, at least not for now. But here are a couple of questions:

1. Would this change some of the limitations in PI such as 32-bit and 64-bit--I noticed that the trials have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I use Vegas 10e 64-bit most of the time (32-bit only if I need to use Magic Bullet HD Looks plugin really). In other words, does this plugin act and operate according to the host Vegas app or is it its own "engine" so to speak irregardless of the version installed?

2. Please share anything else on differences, etc. if any between the stand-alone and this plugin for Vegas.

3. And to follow up with a rather obvious question that landed at the Sony forum where this was announced, will there be a discount for those who already own the full PI 3x?

Thanks.

Exactly the same three questions I would like the answer for...

I have been traveling a lot lately, so apologize for not posting about this. We released particleIllusion for Vegas (and Nuke) last week and posting to this forum was on my list of things to do, but then I got on a plane again.

1) It's 64-bit (available as 32-bit too)

2) The plug-in doesn't let you create emitters, and you essentially don't have the emitter properties dialog. So whatever you have access to in the em props dialog you can't do in the plug-in. The plug-in has an integrated search function though.

3) I don't know about the discount. I'll check into it.

Download the trial version and check it out from genarts.com. It's fully-functional for 2 weeks and watermarks after that.

Alan.

OK, thanks, Alan.

I just installed both versions for Vegas and will check out the differences you mentioned and it is best I spend some time in there before asking further questions.

All I know for now is that I'm kind of a power-tweaker (read: obsessive :) when it comes to the emitters I create so I may just have to stick to the old alpha .PNG sequence out of PI into Vegas approach I've been doing for years.

Whatever the case, it will be fun to fire up Vegas to see what the plugin can actually do or not do in its newfangled Vegas GUI outfit :)

Alan,

Since you indicated there is a 32bit version of the installer, does that mean I can still use my Vegas Pro 9.0e program under Windows XP with this new VFX plugin? The website indicated Vegas 11 which according to the notes I looked at, is only compatible with Windows 7 which I do not own.

This is great news!

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure pI won't work in Vegas 9. It worked for the most part in 10, but there was one issue which I'll have to check on... can't remember if it was critical, but it was enough for us to say that we're only supporting Vegas 11 and up.

Feel free to use the trial version and see if it works with 9 or 10. Let me know how it goes!

I believe that vegas 9 did not support OFX and from the screenshots it looks like PI is done via OFX - so in that case it will not work. I recall the VP10 was the first version to support OFX.

Well, I suppose that settles that, no-in Vegas PI for me -- I have Vegas 10.

And I will not be upgrading for at least two versions for Vegas 11 is the most buggy version ever released (never seen so many threads on the problems at the Sony forum since I've been there for 6 years).

My v.10 and it's more buggy than my faithful v.8 and v.6 that I ran on XP. But I need to use the 64-bit v.10 for RAM purposes on my new Win7 64-bit.

But no biggie at all. I'll keep working in PI proper as I have for years and as Alan pointed out, one can't actually work on emitters in Vegas. Which to me is the main purpose for PI in the first place -- it's my visual workshop.

P.S. to Alan:

1. I hope you don't mind that I have copied over your two responses in this thread to the Sony thread about this new Vegas PI plugin. It seems appropriate since it is the official Vegas forum. I'm just trying to keep fellow Veggies up-to-date.

2. Perhaps I jumped to a pessimistic conclusion in my previous post whereby I deleted my download of the plugin since you said that only v.11 of Vegas is supported -- I had spaced out that you mentioned that it worked "for the most part"* in v.10. I'll re-download and try it out on v.`0e and see what happens.

* Not sure what "for the most part" means so those of us with v.10 will find out. That said it would be nice if could clarify that statement so that we could be ready for whatever error messages or glitches would or could arise.

I.e. a "known issues" list of some sort.

At least the ones that you know of for I understand that rolling out a new product is an unfolding process and that developers do as best as they can. Especially with a program as complex under-the-hood as PI.

Thanks.
