Working with layers and blockers ...
by Dennis Fassbaender (Dennis) on May 10, 2008 at 6:06:43 pm

.. Hello Alan!
Iīm not sure if there is a way to do that, but here are some ideas for further versions:

By working on a project i used 3 Layers:
1- Original video footage with ONE blocker (some houses)
2- Just a Blocker for some flames
3- Another Blocker for more flames :)

When i use a blocker on the Layers 2/3 the blocker become BLACK- because there is no background loaded.
When i take my footage as background, the blocker from layer one is not visable.

The idea is to "lock" the layers to one layer-background. So the blockers of the other layers are not black... do you understand what i mean.

The 2nd thing is this:
I use my blockers with an offset-txt (some tracking data).
So i make the flames burn behind some houses.
But there is this HARD EDGE. A feature "blur blocker" would be fine, so you have a smooth edge ... and you also donīt need perfect tracking-information, because the blur would give a little tolerance in movement.

Greets,
Dennis Fassbaender

Blurring or "feathering" blockers is a feature that a lot of people want.

You can make blockers use images from lower layers by opening the properties dialog for the blocker and checking the "use layers below for bg image" option. (If I understand your problem)

Yes you did.
Thank you, that helps!

I can understand why much people whant this blurr!
I saved a video (with blockers) with an alpha channel and used a gaussian blurr.
Okay, so EVERYTHING is blured, but the hard edge isnīt there.

For Example:

But would be great to have it in the next update or other further versions.

Thanks a lot,
Dennis F.

If you use a compositing program, like I do, then create the matte image first and then load it to use for the blocker in PI.
Then in your compositor, blur the edge using the matte for the particles.

But there is camera movement, and my trackings are too bad (DV-matrial),
so i blurr the whole clip...
Sorry my english is bad, did i understand you right?
