This issue is in the FAQ on our site. Here's the info:
Unfortunately particleIllusion for Windows (both 3.0 and SE) does not
support DV AVI files directly at this time. That means that you need to
either:
1) Install a standalone DV codec such as the Mainconcept DV codec or the
Panasonic DV codec. Do a websearch for "Panasonic DV codec" and you'll find
several sites that have that free codec with instructions for installing. **
BEST OPTION **
2) Convert your DV AVIs into a non-DV format such as DivX or uncompressed
AVI. This conversion would have to be done with another application. I've
checked into Rad Video Tools (http://www.radgametools.com), and it's
perfect. Converts between several different formats, but the important thing
here is it will convert your DV AVI to another AVI format. It's free.
