ripple effect
by pi3rc3 on May 29, 2006 at 8:28:03 pm

im trying to create a ripple effect in particleIllusion 3. i was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials that would teasch me what i need to know to complete this task. the ripple just needs to be something simple and be from a birds eye view, as if someone dropped a pebble into water.

im new to particleIllusion but it seems pretty straight foward ( ive played aroudn with modifying emitters ). amy help on the issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There's 2 types of ripple you can generate in PI3. One is fake distortion effect with "get color from layer" function. It generally looks realistic. You can find some useful reference in library emitters_04_01.il3, from monthly library download section. Another one is simply to apply a ring shape texture and adjust the "size during life" from small size to large size then set velocity, motion rand. to zero. It's already available in the PI:SE/PI3 library Default.il3 (water folder).
