Drives randomly offline

Hi
We're running a CalDigit raidcard inside a MacPro with 4 identical Samsung drives installed in the internal bays (+1 for booting). The drives are 1TB srver grade HE103UJ, F1R. The problem is, that more often than not, at least one of the drives is not found when booting the system. Sometimes it's the first one that shows "Offline" in RaidShield, sometimes the last one etc. The error I get in the logs is usually "Timeout on command 0x00".
We always have to reboot several times until the raid card sees all four drives. I don't think the drives are broken as they're fairly new and because of the fact that it works - sometimes.
While other drives may work, if they are not on the list it's because they are problematic or we have not tested them. You might want to contact our support department just incase something else is going on. They can walk you through some diagnostics on the phone.

I missed the "Timeout on command 0x00" before. That means drive has slower response time than normal drives. It also indicating that it is about to die because of the longer response time. I suggest you try to replace the first drive, rebuild RAID then replace the last drives and rebuild RAID array again. Or if possible, please use approved drives with the CalDigit RAID card.

Thanks Jared
I'm thinking about upgrading the entire array to one of the recommended models now. I've researched the seagate 7200.11 but there seems to be a lot of confusion around the various (regional?) firmware versions. I understand that previous firmware versions seemed to have issues which have been solved with SD1A. But we only seem to be getting CC1x firmwares here instead of the recommended SD1A. Have those been tested too?
For the Hitachi Deskstar there isn't much information on the internet. But I guess no news is good news. We're looking into the HDT721010SLA360. Our local supplier lists it as 7K1000.B instead of just 7K1000 and there is no information on the firmware available.
How important is the firmware version? Which of the two drives would you recommend?
