Now I'm really worried
by Mike Chedwick on Oct 17, 2009 at 5:52:34 pm

A few weeks ago I had a drive lock in my 2 4tb unit HD Element array. I had to unlock and rebuild. All seemed OK. Today as I was getting ready for the first project using this storage this happened.

Event Log

Status normal
Drive 10 plugged in
Drive 10 plugged out
Drive 10 plugged in
Drive 10 plugged out
Drive 11 plugged out
LUN 0 changed
Array 1 Raid failed.

Drive 11 was the same drive that locked previously. This unit is brand new, bought last month. I have attempted to use it twice and twice problems. I'm going to contact support Monday but my confidence in the reliability of this product is zero at this point especially since it is a new unit and I have to rely on it for a major job I'm starting next week.

Hey Mike,

Sorry to hear about your issue. Obviously there is an issue with the drive, and since the unit is new it's under warranty. I'll have our support team contact you and they can get you a new drive.

At CalDigit we make effort effort to buy and test the best quality drives at an affordable price, but drive do fail, which is why we support RAID 1, 5, and 6.

I don't recommend rebuilding the array with a failed drive. Even though it may work, this is not a solution to the issue.

Thanks Jared,

FYI. I restarted and Drive 10 now has a B on it and its status is locked. Drive 11 status is OK. I will leave as is until I contact Tech support.
