I am trying to get a blown out sky to look more real after using the hsl key in the secondary room. I want to make it gradated like a normal sky. I guess I could use 4 or 5 secondaries with vignettes to do this. Is there a way to bring in a gradated pict that goes from grey to off white and use that in the effects room?

Thanks Dave

You might be able to do this in the FX room, but you'd be better off trying it in a compositor like AE or Shake.

I do this a lot using 2 or 3 vignettes.

You should be able to do this with one vignette in the first secondary tab.

If the sky really is blown out, totally white, then it should be fairly easy. Eyedropper anywhere INSIDE the sky and then select Luminance only. Trim the matte to taste, then make a big elliptical vignette with a fair amount of softness, then position it so that the softness corresponds to your intended sky gradation. You may need to blur the matte a little bit, but not more than a few per cent, especially if there is anything finely-detailed (usually trees) silhouetted against the white. Correct the sky.

I should save this off as a preset grade because it seems to come up every other day, now that I'm dealing with mostly video. A film cinematographer would grad the shot to start with.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try. Is there a way to copy one secondary to another? Copy secondary 1 to secondary 2?

Do you mean copy ... the secondary corrections between tabs within a single grade? I don't think so.

What would this accomplish?

If I spend 10 minutes on getting a good HSL key and vignette shape it would be a quick way to copy the HSL key and move the and vignette to make other changes to the same area.
