Hi,
What should I get for color grading?
- Panasonic BT-LH2550 or (about 5000$)
- Sony LMD-2450W or (about 3400$)
Budget is somewhere in between. I haven't had a chance to see the first one (end of march probably). Sony price will probably get close to Panasonic when I add decoder card for HDSDI

Very good, but the FSI 2450W is better. I've looked at both and while I love Panasonic as a company, the 2550 is not quite there yet.

Not very good and don't waste money on the HD-SDI decoder card when it's already standard on so many other monitors.
If you want to really stay in budget, look at the FSI 1760W. Full color grading monitor at only $2,495. Now it is a native 720p monitor, but it will display 1080i beautifully and it's an accurate monitor.
They also offer the 2130W and 2430W which are both great editing monitors, and cheaper, but they do have some light spill in the corners, which is why they are classified at "Grade 2" monitors by the company. The 2450 and 1760 are the top of the line panels and do not have light spill.

[borko grujic]"Sorry I didn't mention that I am in Europe... so FSI is probably not the easiest choice (being US brand and all)"
They work both PAL and NTSC. They also ship all over the world so it's really not an issue.
They only sell through their website so there will not be a European dealer that you can find to do a demo, but because of that they offer a full 30 day money back guarantee. So if you want, you could order an FSI and then have a local dealer bring a Panasonic and Sony monitor to compare to. If you don't like the FSI, you ship it back.
Not a bad deal. The other monitor to compare these against would be the TV-Logic, but the 24" is $8,000 there. That's the monitor I was planning to purchase this year until we tested the FSI's last week.
eCinema also has some lower priced displays, but I honestly have not seen them nor do I know what the costs / performance are on those.
