Help: Secondaries not tracking
by Paul Nordin on Jan 20, 2009 at 11:53:35 pm

I'm grading a feature, shot in DVCProHD. I've rendered out all the speed changes and effects (except rotation set to 180degrees to un-flip the footage).

I had this problem before and it seemed to get resolved with a prior upgrade. But now it's back. Almost all my keyframed secondaries don't track at all when being rendered. They work fine in the preview. This is a relatively fresh install of Color (reinstalled 1.04 before this job).

Any help or ideas?

Might not be able to help much because I have a fairly low opinion of the tracker to start with... but why use Rotation to flop images -- seems like an invitation to disaster.

Thanks for the response JP. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered that the problem was related to setting "handles" to anything other than zero. When set to zero, the tracker tracked as expected.

Understand your lack of enthusiasm for Color's tracker. But if you use Color to grade a film, don't you use tracker for secondaries?

Why? I use secondaries with very soft borders and just animate by hand. Serious tracking is a job for compositing software.
