Color Change my fields order.

Hi everybody,
I've been searching in the forum but I can not find out what I've done wrong.
I'm sending to Color EX-1 converted to ProRess, Upper first.
I applied two instances of the Nattress De-interlacer (Oneset to Odd, one set to Even), and recombine them with the Interlacer.
After rendering i send the clips to Motion wher for my surprise I see that now are Lower First.
The only moment I think can be something wrong is when connecting the two effect branches to the Interlacer. Would be any difference if a change the noodles to each other input?
Thanks in advance,
rafael

Hi Joseph,
I'll do that test. The only possible variation is to shift the branches when they get back to be re-interlaced. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks.

Walter, are you a lawyer? You answer a question with another question?
Actually that is a good question. I don't know what EX-1 is, or why R thinks he needs to deinterlace it. Is there a specific function in COLORFX that requires it?
My impression remains, at least with COLOR... let sleeping dogs lie... if you don't HAVE to do something ---- don't.

[walter biscardi]"Really? I've never had an issue with ColorFX nodes messing with interlacing either in SD or HD. Must be a specific node I supposed. "
Anything that does calculations across more than one line, like all blur filters, will cause problems when applying them to interlaced footage without deinterlacing first. Since Color does not know anything about fields it will blur together the first field and second field lines, which means that your interlaced lines will get merged together in a bad way.

Again, I've never seen that here and we do all interlaced work except for the feature film I just completed. I'll have to do some testing with our 1080i material, but I did complete a documentary just last month that was 1080i and I used the Color FX room for quite a few of the shots. Definitely would have noticed bad interlacing issues. I'll have to play with it some more and see what happens.

Sorry to be late.
As Floh says there is a certain kind of effects (blur, de-noise) that must be applied in a field basis otherwise you end up with progressive looking footage.
Here there is a little article of Wendy Nattress explaining how to do it:

I applied the Film Look effect. This includes some Blur. If you do not apply this technique the Blur makes the two fields of each frame to look the same. You end up with interlaced stuff but looking progressive.
Cheers,
