2nd monitor for work in color

I shooting with a Sony EX-3 and edit with Apple Studio 2.
My computer is an 8 core 2.8ghz Mac Pro and 23" apple display
I would like to purchase an additional monitor for work with "Color"
Looking at a Matrox MXO box and 23 inch cinema display. Any thoughts on this combo?
Anyone using the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview feature in Final Cut Pro HD feeding a second monitor?
Any performance differences?

AFAIK, MXO is a FireWire/ SD solution. See http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/223/7047 for another experience.

Maybe this sort of approach is inexpensive enough not to need any kind of "shelf life", but technology seems to share a similar "best before" date with "milk".
