Trying to Import Single clip - Color can't see it!

I am having a recurring problem and have no clue what is going on..
After a grade has been done, a shot gets changed and so the replacement needs to match up. I find the easiest way is to unlock the timeline, import the new clip, grade it, render it and then re-edit it back in in FCP.
Works well, and quickly...however, i have started to experience a weird problem. Color lets me navigate to the folder in which the video is held, but when i click to open the folder it shows a blank page - no files, nothing. I know for a fact there is video in the folder, and that its the correct format.
And this problem is not consistent - some folders will work fine whilst others reveal empty pages.
I'm using Color 1.0.2 on 10.4.11, running on a Quad G5, with Kona3 and Geforce 7800GT.
Any clues how to get around this problem? or whats causing it?
thanks

Preliminary assumption #1. You sent the project to COLOR from FCP using the "Send To..." option.
This generates an XML file. When you unlock the COLOR timeline and drop in a foreign body, that XML is screwed. Its highly NOT recommended.
It is far better, when faced with this situation, to drop the revised shot back into the FCP timeline, reSend a NEW project to COLOR, import COLOR CORRECTIONS from the previous versioin, and that's where you rejoin your regularly scheduled programming.
The XML roundtrip is fragile, to say the least. Don't do anything on the COLOR timeline in terms of editing. Don't even think about it.

You can also save the entire grade in Color. Create a new timeline in FCP with the one clip, send it to Color, apply the saved grade, render, send back to FCP and replace the old clip.

thanks guys, i am aware of the xml limitations, but for what i do i'm willing to take the chance!
The problem i cannot understand, and that i am hoping for some enlightenment on is the fact that Color seems to be selective about which folders it will look in.
I have found that the video files themselves are not the problem. I have tried dragging the video clips to older folders and they appear instantly, i have tried creating new folders and sometimes things are visible, sometimes the folder appears empty (even though its not.)
i have tried repairing permissions, and have checked the ownership properties of the folders and cannot find anything different, so i am baffled why this is happening.
Any ideas?
