Color to FCP Media is missing
by Richard Baldomero on Jul 23, 2008 at 3:07:02 pm

Everytime I send my Color project back to FCP: the sequence gets created, but no media is connected to it. What's wrong?

[Richard Baldomero] "yes I rendered.

So when you're done Rendering, you select File > Send To Final Cut Pro and then you don't get any media at all reconnecting?

Correct. Every file in the sequence is missing file. I don't know why Color and FCP aren't connecting the files.

Have honestly never seen this. What's in the Render folder?

My Render Folder is in the default space that Color uses it. Basicly it's under Documents>Color Document

You could try setting a different location for the render media, then saving, then rendering again, then saving, then exporting a new XML.

Dunno why it's not working, but that's the first thing that comes to mind as something to try.

When you right click on the clips in FCP, of the "From Color" sequence, and select "reveal in finder" what does it do?

Ok, that's a REALLY bad place for it as that is on your main System Hard drive. NEVER render to the main system hard drive. That should be set to your fastest media array as I explain in my Color Training.

My question is what is INSIDE that Render folder? You should see a whole series of numbered folders in there. If you don't, then Color never rendered.

Inside the render folder is a sequence of numbers and each one is the rendered clip. Oddly, the clips doesn't connect them back to FCP.

Honestly don't know what to tell you then. As long as you Rendered, then did a "Send to Final Cut Pro" it should have opened the associated project and that new timeline referenced back to the Color files.

I've never had this particular issue in using the product for about 2 or 3 years now.

Have you tried exporting an XML, then importing that into FCP, instead of using the "Send to Color" button?
