EX1 and Color
by Dan Browne on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:55:11 pm

We have just done a commercial and its finished now but it would be good knowing for next time if there is anyway of solving the problems we had. So we send the project from Final Cut Pro to Color, do the color tweeks, then when we send it back, all the footage that has a lot of motion in it looks really nasty and doesnt play as cleanly as it did before it went to color. Also the same happens with any slowdowns we do, whether it has loads of motion or not, when it comes back it never looks as clean as it does before going to color. Also the color corrections look different in color than they do in final cut... which is a majour booey.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Any help is massively appreciated.

Speed changes don't work with Color and the XDCAM EX format is also kind of a no-go. For best results render everything out of FCP to ProRes or Uncompressed with Media Manager before going to Color.

Yeah I was just thinking that that may be the problem. Oh well thank you for confirming it.

Hi Dan,
I'm sending from FC every kind of EX-1 footage (camera slows included) and they look incredibly good when exported from Color.
To go Proress is just to put a patch. You must have something wrong somewhere and you should look for.

Hmm thats very weird. The slow downs are really what looked the worst in my case. Another thing that may be worth mentioning is we got a lot of Orange Unlimited renders and the dark green Full Renders when it had all come back from Color... Dont know if you did also???

Cheers,

D

Dan,
This shows that you have something set wrong somewhere.
Import one of the renders to FC and see which settings shows in the FC Browser.
