color jumping
by Watson Joshua on Jul 15, 2008 at 6:30:41 pm

So I exported from Color back to FCP, then I used Compressor (and by now, several other compressions), then I went into DVD studio. Everything looks pretty much fine on my computer, but when the project is on DVD the reds seem to jump and distort. Some of the blues do so as well.
Anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this?

Did you keep your colors broadcast legal?

Hmm...I tried adding a 'Broadcast Safe' filter in FCP, but still the same thing. I think it ties back to something from Color, but I don't know what.

Yes, it absolutely ties into Color, that's why I asked if you have Broadcast Safe on. I'm talking about Color, not Final Cut Pro. FCP's Broadcast Safe filter is useless for Chroma.

Do you have broadcast safe turned on in Color?

Also, one more question, where are your reds and blues on the scopes? Are they mashed to the Red and Blue stops with Color clipping them off?

No, the colors are just fine on the scopes, which is puzzling. I also went back through Color, making sure 'broadcast safe' is on, but still the same results.

However, I no longer think the problem is with Color. I just exported the uncorrected footage and it has the same problem. Therefore I am back at square one. It is HDV footage shot on a Sony (Z1U, I think).

Thanks for your suggestions, though.
