reconnecting render files
by Cedric Nairn- Smith on Jun 18, 2008 at 2:49:30 pm

I would like to move my render files from one drive to another and am afraid of permanently putting these clips offline or losing them. Is it possible to move the renders folder to another drive, launch Color, and then select a new volume thereby saving my old renders? Is there a convention in Color that allows me to reconnect media? I looked through the Color forum to see if this topic has been covered before and could not find any useful tips. Maybe I was searching for the wrong topic.

Thanks
Cedric

I'm confused.

You want to create an "archived" folder of previously rendered media on another drive, and then render a new batch of media on some other drive for reasons of your own?

COLOR's reconnect function applies only to source media.

After rendering, COLOR loses contact with the newly rendered media, with the exception of creating/modifying the accompanying XML file, if you've gone that route, and even then its purely for the benefit of Final Cut. Otherwise COLOR neither knows, nor cares where you put it.

If you want to offline, archive, or save an alternate version, bring it back into FCP, Media Manage it out to the storage medium of your choice, and go from there.
